In the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic that hit all over the world, including in Indonesia, it had a huge impact in all lines of economic life, especially in the distribution of staple foodstuffs in the islands. The main objective of this research is to determine the amount of rice (in tonnes) that will be distributed with the cheapest transportation costs by PT. Utama Berseri to the area of Tanjungpinang City and Bintan Regency in Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province during the current pandemic.

The sampling method used was judgmental sampling technique with a population of rice selling agents in Bintan Island, while for the data collection method, direct interviews were conducted with PT. Utama Berseri. The data analysis technique uses the Vogel's Approximation Method (VAM) followed by the Stepping Stone Method in order to get the lowest transportation costs. When determining the amount of rice (tonnes) to be distributed, the main considerations are the cost of transportation from the origin to the destination area, the amount of demand, and the availability of the amount of rice to be distributed. The results show that the application of transportation methods can produce the minimum transportation costs.
